Descrição detalhada da prática ou projeto

The company based in Huerta de Rey Ribpellet will build a pellet manufacturing and electrical production plant in this town in the Burgos mountains. It will involve an investment of 15 million euros and will be located on a plot of 20,000 square meters next to the ships that the factory already owns. Ribpellet is expected to create 10 jobs in the area.

The pellet is an alternative fuel to diesel and natural gas, manufactured from pine sawdust, specifically, conifer, since it is of higher quality. The pellet is one of the least known fuels, but its advantages are evident since it is cheaper than other sources and can be dosed

The company Ribsa from Burgos is the one that heads this industrial project and takes up an already initiated project of the Burgos timber company that is responsible for making wooden coils and packaging. This company participates with 25% of the share capital, just over 4,000 euros, while the rest of the capital, 12,040 euros is distributed among the Public Environment Society of the Junta de Castilla y León, Servitec Medioambiental, de Pedrosa de Valdeporres , and Integration of Energy Activities, from Boecillo Park, in Valladolid, which has Cenit Solar photovoltaic as its sole partner. Study its integration Enerpellet that already participates in other companies in the biomass sector.

The majority, Ribsa, is directed by the businessman of the locality Arturo Rica. In the last year, this company reached a turnover of 2.27 million euros and benefits of 189,000 euros. It began with an initial investment, in 2007 of 7.2 million euros employs a dozen employees.

Production requires as a raw material thousands of tons per year of chips, pine and forest biomass. Its supply arrives from the sawmills that are located in this forest region, in addition to the production of the Ribsa company itself, in its wood coil factory.

Use of local biomass as a renewable energy source, and serve as a model for its application in other rural regions of Spain.

Descripción detallada de la práctica o proyecto

Description détaillée de la pratique ou du projet

Descrição detalhada da prática ou projeto

The sustainable extraction of biomass from forest mass will have a thermal use (hot water and heating) in the domestic and assistance sector, and its use as a source of energy implies, according to Miguel Ángel Duralde, president of Asemfo, “multiple social and environmental advantages, such as the generation of rural employment, the cleaning of forests and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions ”.

4,000 tons for 1,600 homes

The plant, which occupies an area of 660 m2, will produce 2,500 tons per year, although it has the capacity to generate 4,000 tons of chips. According to the technical manager of the project, Enrique Enciso, “the splinters produced in the center can generate enough fuel to provide hot water and heating to some 1,600 homes of 100 useful square meters, which would be equivalent to an approximate population of 4,800 population”.

The transformer installation – in which 200,000 to 300,000 euros have been invested – is an express adaptation for the project of a construction machine used to screen aggregates. With several screening processes, the plant can eliminate products such as powders, sawdust and bark and obtain a splinter very similar in size and of higher quality.

The two types of chips that are obtained according to size are the G30 – intended for boilers up to 150kw – and the G50, for those with higher power. These chips are generated from the transformation of roundwood acquired in uses of the area, coming from clearings and prunings made by the Administration itself. In both cases it is, according to those responsible, a splinter of high value, very homogeneous and made from pine wood (the most common species in the area) and with a low moisture content – between 12% and a 20%.

The center reaches a production in two shifts of 5,300 t / year in green or what is the same about 4,000 t / year of chips once the moisture and other waste have been subtracted. G50 / W30 chips are produced.

3 direct jobs have been created, 149 people have worked in the facilities, and countless induced positions, since a total of 67 local companies have participated directly in the project.

The future challenge is focused on promoting the demand for this product and carrying out important communication and dissemination work to society. With the support of the Administration, the use of this energy in public and private buildings should be promoted ”

In Lozoyuela it meant creating three direct jobs and another 149 indirect ones, extending its scope to localities in Madrid, Castilla y León and Castilla La Mancha. They produce 7,000 tons of pine splinters that generate energy to supply about 3,000 homes.

The installation of this industry in Niebla will create direct employment for about 14 people in the production and administration departments of the factory, and more than 200 indirect ones that will mostly be dedicated to the transport of the raw material to the port of Huelva, some 4,000 tons per month, according to company forecasts. The factory staff will come from the City Council employment exchange, so they will be residents of the town. The economic impact is extended to workshops and maintenance companies and even to the restoration businesses in the area. The 30-year rental contract signed last month by Laura Pichardo, mayor of Niebla, and Pelegrín, will allow this industry to be installed in Niebla, which will be one of the largest in Andalusia in the manufacture of this fuel obtained from the recovery of by-products derived from wood such as sawdust.
