RESULTS

Expected results
The principal results of the Project shall be:

  • An Inventory of best management practicesfor the supply and demand of forest biomass at the level of SUDOE and other European regions, with the possibility of adapting to the reality of the SUDOE territories.
  • An integrated management modelof the biomass market as a “short-circuit” applicable to most of the forest areas of the SUDOE. A Guide shall be prepared to permit the maximum dissemination of the model.
  • Innovative practices and techniquesin the SUDOE territory: New, more efficient exploitation systems, adapted to the different types of mountains in the SUDOE area:
  • New, more flexible biomass procurement modelsthat guarantee a continuous supply; Cooperative conversion systems and biomass logistics in public-private collaboration; Schemes to promote public and private demand for forest biomass.
  • 5 Pilot Schemes to Apply the Management Modelin other regions representative of SUDOE: Navarra, Extremadura, Cataluña, Occitanie and Región Centro, Portugal. In each region the most innovative practices and techniques set out in the model shall be applied, and those that most contribute to overcoming the barriers to the development of the biomass market in the region in question.
  • Closing Seminar on “Boosting the Forest Biomass Energy Market in the SUDOE”to be held in Pamplona with the collaboration of the principal networks of Energy Agencies in Spain, France and Portugal, agents representative of the forest sector, Regional Governments, Local Entities and Local Action Groups.

The contribution to the Performance indicator shall firstly be made through the implementation of the pilot schemes in 5 regions of the SUDOE area. The forest areas of these 5 regions shall benefit from the strategy to boost the market for forest biomass in the region.

In the medium term, thanks to the dissemination of the management model developed, the strategy will be extended to other forest areas in the SUDOE territory.
